Eldora Mountain Resort – "Bluebird Ski Day Saturday Before Christmas"
Yesterday we arrived at the area just around 8:30 and much to our surprise the parking lots were not full and we were able to park close to the new base lodge. Several years ago Eldora added this lodge and it makes a world of difference in comfortably handling the crowds at Eldora. With a quick ride of 40 minutes from Boulder and no I - 70 traffic a day trip to Eldora is another one of the many great benfits living in Boulder provides. The recent blizzard dropped cloe to 30 inches of new snow and the mountain is 100% open. Seldom are we blessed with this mind of snow for the Christmas holidays. To make the day even better we rode the first lift and noticed the was not even the slightest breeze, no wind, and we had a deep blue sky as our backdrop. With temperatures hovering in the 20's it was a picture perfect day. The first runs were soft corduroy groomed runs off the front side - starting with Jolly Jug and Powderhorn. From here we would then head to the back side and ride the Indian Peaks and Corona chairs. Every run was nothing but soft snow mixed with broken powder and easy to carve turns. West Ridge, the steep and deeps of Eldora was in as good a condition as I have ever seen (I have now skied at Eldora for 28 winters). Great cover and plenty of snow for everyone. Of special note is how nice Eldora skis these days even with a full parking lot. After lunch we skied a run down La Belle Dame on the front side and saw not one person. The more we ski Eldora the more we realize this is truly a gem for all located in Boulder County Colorado. This will be great holiday and winter of skiing and riding at the local Boulder ski hill.
