Heil Ranch Park

This Boulder Park truly changed with the addition of two trails that opened up the park and recreation to mountain bikers and hikers. Wapiti and Ponderosa trails were introduced during the Fall 2001. Wapiti and Ponderosa trails are open to hikers, bikers and equestrians a third trail called Lichen trail is only open to hikers. NO dogs allowed.

This is a convenient trail in terms of proximity to Boulder, that is not over the top in terms of difficulty. However, given it's heavy use it has become pretty rocky for mountain biking and is not an easy cruise by any means. It starts with a good climb out of the parking lot.

Great views of the continental divide aawait riders at the top of the loop and there is a bench which is a great break spot with views of Hall Ranch, another locals favorite in Boulder County and the Front Range.

Heil Ranch Park – "Close to Boulder and good climb"
This has and continues to be one of my more favorite rides in close proximity to Boulder. It has a good climb and some tecnical rocky parts without being too brutal. I really like that it has shade most of the ride. In the hot dog days of summer this is a pleasant feature. That being said the trail sure does seem to be getting rockier and more difficult. It is an up and back that has a loop with great views at the top. Easy to get to from Boulder. Go North headed to Lyons and take a left at the Greenbriar. Go maybe 1.5 miles and look for the entrance to parking on the right.
