Keystone Resort – "Keystone and Testing skis"
We usually make it to Keystone several times a year. It is a close 1 hour and 30 - 40 minute drive from Boulder up I-70. keystone is a little lower elevation than the other Summit county skis areas and tends ot make more snow than the others. Often we ski and ride Keystone in the early season as they open quite a bit of terrain to get the legs in shape. Long cruiser runs off the Gondola are a great start to the seaosn. One of my favorites includes Drunken Frenchmen which has decent pitch. is uusally groomed and has a nice fall line. We were in Ketsone for two days in early February this year(2007) to test and demos skis. See related store in the MSC Blog. I used the run from the top of Frenchmen down to the Mountain House base as my testing run. Tne snow was soft in spots and firm with great groomers down the front side of the mountain for these two days. On most trips and days we would also meander over to the Outback, which has trees, bumps and steeper cruiser runs. Mix it up wiht The NOrth Peak and you have a wide range of terrain suitable for all abilities of skiers and snowboarders. The nigh skiing offered may not be for me but many do indulge in the 12 plus hours of skiing and riding offered at Keystone.
