Liberty Mountain Resort "Christmas Eve at Liberty"
December 30, 2007 — The skiing was actually wonderful! The day was enhanced by mild weather, in the 40’s, a beautiful blue, pink and yellow sky, and the small crowds. Not great for the resort, but a wonderful Christmas present for the skiers and snowboarders.
I don’t know how Liberty did it! The weather was warm, and the previous day was extremely rainy. I was hesitant to go, but my husband Charles was willing to do the driving, and pointed out it was only about an hour from Bethesda. There was also little traffic, which added to the Christmas presents.

On the slopes, the atmosphere was enhanced by marvelous Christmas music. The trails were in marvelous shape - fast and groomed. They were listed as frozen granular and packed powder, but they were fine for me, and just the way I like them. There were 7 trails open, but that was more than adequate for the light crowds. My favorite was Heavenly, which I took again and again. The double diamonds Upper Ultra and the West Side Park were also open. There were some bare patches and leaves on the trails, but nothing to cause problems. More snowmaking is underway, which will improve the situation further.

As always, we enjoyed visiting with President and General Manager Eric Flynn and his terrific staff. He said they work hard to keep the resort as safe and inviting as possible. Many activities are planned for the upcoming season, and Christmas wishes are for cold so the magical snowmaking elves can open the rest of the resort.
As we left, there was a beautiful sunset over the mountains, and I believe I heard the jingling of a sled in the skies. Oh well, maybe it was just the planes protecting the Bush family at nearby Camp David! But, whatever it was, I hope they got the message, and bless us with cold weather, and perhaps some natural snow, in the ensuing months!

Liberty Mountain Resort "Liberty: Best in the Area"
If you live in the DC Metro area and want to hit the slopes, there is no better place then Liberty Mountain Resort. Not only is it closer than Whitetail or RoundTop, but it is also much nicer. Their staff is friendlier and they are more committed to making sure you have a great time. The runs are almost always well groomed and nice, and they always have a very solid and exciting terrain park if you are into that. Families are always welcomed, and they even offer a Children's Learning Center if you can't teach your kids to ski or board yourself. Or they can just hang out there for the day while you shred. Its all around a great place; the best in this region.

Liberty Mountain Resort "Great Discount for the over 50 crowd."
Liberty has a somewhat unknown program call "Silver Streak". Every wednesday, anyone over age 50 can get a lift ticket, 2 hours ski lesson and lunch for about the same price as a lift ticket. The price is $40 including a 4 hour lift ticket or $44 including an 8 hour lift ticket. Be sure to go to the Group sales office in the clock tower building at Liberty. The regular ticket window doesn't seem to know about this program. Considering that a midweek lift ticket costs $37 or $42 (4 or 8 hours), a lesson costs $30 and lunch costs $10 and up, this is a great deal. The instructors are excellent and the program is so unknown that the group lesson is usually 2 - 3 people. After the lesson, instrutors and students have lunch together. And for those of you who are vegetarians - the vegie burger is tasty!
