As the sport of snowboarding was growing and maturing during the early 90's, the founders of Raging Buffalo saw that snowboarders were being treated as second class citizens at the local ski areas. As a result, the concept of a "snowboard exclusive" area was born. It was this "snowboarder's only" stance that created the most buzz in the snowboard community.
A lease was arranged with the Kane County Forest Preserve and in January of 1993 the ski area previously known as Buffalo Park Ski Area became the site of Raging Buffalo Snowboard Park -- officially the world's first snowboard exclusive area.
