Vail Resort – "Skiing a sunrise at Vail"
Tuesday January 8, 2007 Vail is and continues to be one of my favorite resorts to ski at. It is huge and vast with an incredible variety of terrain. The views are spectacular and the snow is usually terrific. This day was no different, but very unique. I am attending the Western Regional National Ski Areas Association winter meeting. On this day those in attendance were invited for "Fresh Tracks", which meant being able to get on the lifts at 7 AM. The plan was to ski from Cascade lodge to Vail Village and take the Vista Bahn chair to mid Vail. From there we had until 9 AM to ski before being served a magnificent breakfast spread that included eggs, pastries, salmon, pancakes, mats and more. The highlihgt for me was to see the sun rise over the back bowls and then be able to scream on freshly groomed corduroy down Slot into the back side of the mountain. We had skied the previous day and there was still some soft broken snow available off the groomed trails. Everything is open and the skiing and riding is simply fantastic.
