The Warner Canyon Ski Area was formerly part of the Fremont National Forest. However, in 1998, a land exchange between Lake County, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Forest Service was completed which transferred ownership to Lake County. The area continues to be operated by the non-profit Fremont Highlander Ski Club.
